A Johnnie Basketball Foundation
John P. Wiehoff built the foundation for a lifetime of leadership during his years at Saint John’s University. As a member of the Johnnies men’s basketball program, he was known for his discipline, competitiveness, and steady leadership. Balancing academics and athletics at a high level, Wiehoff exemplified the scholar-athlete tradition that defines Saint John’s.
From the Court to the Corner Office
Following graduation, Wiehoff began his professional career in accounting before moving into the logistics and supply chain industry. In 1992, he joined Minnesota-based C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc., one of the world’s leading third-party logistics companies. Over the next decade, he advanced through a series of senior leadership roles, inclduing Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and President.
In 2002, Wiehoff was named Chief Executive Officer of C.H. Robinson, later also serving as Chairman of the Board. Under his leadership, the company expanded its global footprint, strengthened its technology-driven logistics platform, and grew into a global supply chain powerhouse serving customers across industries and continents. He retired as Executive Chairman in 2020, concluding nearly three decades of service with the company.
Leadership Beyond C.H. Robinson
Following his executive career, Wiehoff has continued to contribute his expertise through board service and advisory roles. He has served on the boards of Polaris Inc., U.S. Bancorp, and Union Pacific Corporation, helping guide organizations through growth, transformation, and governance challenges.
Values Rooted in Saint John’s
The values shaped at Saint John’s — teamwork, accountability, and principled leadership have remained central throughout Wiehoff’s career. His continued connection to the university reflects a belief in the formative impact of a Saint John’s education and the importance of sustaining opportunity for future generations of Johnnies.
John and his wife Margie (84 College of St. Benedicts graduate), remain very loyal alumni who are extremely grateful for the lifelong foundation of education and values that St. John’s-St. Ben’s provided to them. John & Margie have continually supported St. John’s-St. Ben’s financially as one way to show their appreciation and to hopefully create similar experiences for future generations of students.
